This year's Oscar candidates are remarkably diverse. Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Penélope Cruze, and other well-known actors were nominated this year. After receiving his tenth nomination for "Macbeth: A Tragedy," Denzel Washington became the most nominated black actor in history. The most nominated film this year is Jane Campion's "The Power of the Dog," which got 12 nominations. Will Smith was nominated for both "Best Actor" and "Best Picture," making him the only black male to win acting and producing nods in the same year. The sixth married couple to get acting nominations in the same year is Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.
