Bangladesh has become a role model for positive transition, according to High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson, as a dynamic, independent nation honoring the 50th anniversary of its diplomatic connection with the United States. He stated that the United Kingdom is proud of the Bangladesh-UK partnership. He recalled Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's journey to the United Kingdom in January 1972, when he met with Prime Minister Edward Heath before returning to his newly-born country. During this trip, Dickson noticed that aid to Bangladesh began with humanitarian relief and subsequently transitioned to research, health, education, catastrophe risk reduction, and poverty alleviation. As Bangladesh's economy grew, the UK expanded its engagement by offering capacity-building services to Bangladesh's military, police, and government employees.
