As a vibrant, independent nation marking the 50th anniversary of its diplomatic relationship with the United States, Bangladesh has become a role model for positive transformation, according to High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson. He said the UK is proud of the partnership between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. He recalled Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's visit to the UK in January 1972, during which he met with UK Prime Minister Edward Heath before returning to his newly-born country. n this journey, Dickson noted that support for Bangladesh originally focused on humanitarian relief, but eventually shifted to research, health, education, disaster risk reduction, and poverty alleviation. With Bangladesh's growth, the United Kingdom broadened its relationship by providing capacity building services for Bangladesh's military, police, and government officials. Meanwhile, several thousand Bangladeshis have settled in the United Kingdom.
