According to UK High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dickson,Bangladesh has become a role model of good transition while continuing to face political and governance issues as a thriving, independent nation. He made the statements in a statement issued yesterday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic connection between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, emphasizing the UK's pride in this journey. He recalled Bangabandhu's historic visit to the UK in January 1972 and his meeting with UK Prime Minister Edward Heath before returning to his newly-born home from Pakistan captivity.Dickson said that the original help for Bangladesh was humanitarian relief, but that it later shifted to research, health, education, disaster risk reduction, poverty alleviation, and women empowerment. As Bangladesh expanded, the UK broadened its connection by assisting with capacity building.
