Peanuts, like lentils and peas, are cultivated underground in pods. Due to fluctuating floods of the Brahmaputra river in Kurigram's Chilmari upazila, Rangpur's main peanut market is nearly never located in the same area two years in a row. The market is always put up next to a boat base, which changes each year depending on the level of the river; this year, both were set up in Faluar Char due to low water levels. Last year, the symbiotic enterprises were formed in Jorgachh Char. Local farmers told The Daily Star that setting up the market with the boat base every year benefits them greatly since it allows wholesalers from all across the nation to come buy their goods at cheap prices.
